A one man election

Zimbabwe was forced into a one man election on friday the 22nd after the withdrawal of opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai. RG Mugabe, went on to declare himself winner in the elction with about 85% of the vote. A quick swearing in ceremony was held at Statehouse, where Mugabe said he was now open to talks with the oppositon.Tsvangirai also says he is willing to talk and could consider Mugabe staying as titular head of State. Mugabe dashed off to the AU summit immediately afterwards. On the first day of the summit, African heads of State have failed to question nor critique Mugabe's new mandate. On the other hand, South African government has called for a transitional government inclusive of the two main parties, MDC and ZANU PF. Meanwhile, Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called on the AU not to recognise the presidency of Mugabe lest they set a very bad precedence. The UN, in the mean time, has published the first draft of sanctions to be targeted against government officials who have defied international laws.
