Successful visit Zimbabwean delegation

Maxime Verhagen & Lovemore Matombo

From April 20 to April 24 a Zimbabwean delegation, consisting of Lovemore Matombo (President Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions) and Gabriel Shumba (Director Zimbabwe Exiles Forum), visited the Netherlands.

Irene Petras (Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights) was also supposed to be part of the delegation, but due to the Icelandic Volcano eruption she was not able to travel to Europe. Brian Penduka from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum replaced her.

Lovemore and Gabriel visited the Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen, the Human Rights Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Members of Parliament and different NGO’s. Different media also interviewed them.

Their visit to the Netherlands ended with their participation to the EVS Africa Day. Being the main guest, Lovemore delivered the keynote speech, inspiring many in the audience. Zimbabwe Watch also organized a successful workshop with Lovemore and Brian, which was visited by 75 people, among which there were quite a number of Zimbabweans.

Their visit was part of a European lobby tour around the 30th anniversary of Zimbabwean Independence. More information about the activities in other countries can be found on the website of the Zimbabwe Europe Network
