Vision and Mission Statement

Vision
Zimbabwe Watch is a network of Dutch civil society organizations, including secular, faith-based and developmental organizations, with programs of support and/or presence on the ground in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe Watch aims to contribute to a democratic and prosperous Zimbabwe for all Zimbabweans, whereby human rights and commitments to good governance, socio-economic development and the rule of law are respected. Zimbabwe Watch closely collaborates with partners in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa and Europe in order to define the most pressing issues and actions, and develop possible alternatives.

Mission Statement
In collaboration with its partners in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Watch undertakes common analysis, lobbying and advocacy work to contribute to a democratic and prosperous Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe Watch strives for a Zimbabwe, which:

  • allows every person in Zimbabwe to enjoy their right to a life with dignity
  • guarantees and respects the socio-economic and political rights of all its inhabitants and organisations
  • develops and implements electoral law and processes which guarantee free and fair election of legitimate and accountable governments and representatives at local, provincial and national level.
  • restores and follows the rule of law; including implementation of court rulings and demilitarisation of state institutions
  • meets international standards in the extractive industries, with transparency and accountability with regards to revenue streams
  • carries out an independent land and debt audit

In order to contribute to this it is important that the activities and programs of different Dutch organisations are well coordinated. Zimbabwe Watch plays an important role here; good cooperation and coordination in the Netherlands means optimised Dutch presence in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Watch calls for changes in policies in Zimbabwe but does not support any one party or faction.
