As announced in the renewal of their common position on Zimbabwe the EU has added 27 individuals and 36 entities to the list of people facing visa ban and asset freeze and businesses facing restrictions.
EU on 26. January renewed its common position on Zimbabwe, including visa ban and asset freeze on ZanuPF leadership (the list now reaches total of 203 people) and companies (adding 36 companies to the 4 already named).
In the meantime the SADC communique coming out of a long meeting on Zimbabwe in Pretoria falls short from addressing the issues raised by Zimbabwean Civil Society - such as the call by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to hold the Government of Zimbabwe to account on its violations of SADC principles and on the violations of the political agreement ZanuPF and the MDC fractions signed.
Just a few days before Christmas Eve news started filtering that abducted Human Rights activist, Jestina Mukoko, was still alive, but held in custody. Police, who denied knowing her wherabouts, were actually responsible for her illegal abduction. Instead of being freed she now stands accused of high treason.
