My phone lines went hot today with three lines going off at the same time. Why was that? Well because it became public that MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai had seeked refuge in the Dutch embassy in Harare. It started by “did you know”, “is it true”, “why is that” and finally “what does it mean”? Indeed what does it mean? It means that Tsvangirai believes he’s not safe on the streets of Harare. Not so according to the Government of Zimbabwe, I see the titles of tomorrows papers in Zimbabwe “Dutch lapdogs of UK give asylum to British stooge” already in front of me. Hmm by the way – as I am writing – the UN Security Council is debating Zimbabwe. I have a direct line into their room – South Africa is saying, “Zimbabwe is not a threat to international peace”. Last month Xenophobic attacks cost lives of more than XX people in South Africa and the army had to intervene to bring back some stability. There are still refugee camps inside South Africa now.

Zimbabwe is a great learning place. Ironically it is here, coming from Europe, that I understood Eastern Germany with all its infiltrants and propaganda better. Knowing what it means not to trust each other, watching every word one says, lying not because one has to but because one ever knows. The biggest employer in Zimbabwe must be the CIO now. A visit to Zimbabwe will also allow you to watch some of the finest pieces of propaganda news ever produced. A friend used to play a game of predicting next day’s headlines but he stopped, he was too often right.

I forgot to tell one piece of news yesterday. A CNN friend – no, not the tv channel (you must have forgotten that satellite dishes were not allowed in Zimbabwe anymore – they were allowing propaganda to be sent into the country so the police ordered that they be taken away) – no CNN here means a Condoms Not Necessary friend of mine. And don’t worry she’s apparently faithful but not only faithful also pregnant and expecting a kid by the end of this year. I was happy, told her they should name it freedom, promise or unity and that she should invite me to the marriage. “Sorry, we don’t have enough money for that” she replied.
