The Zimbabwe situation is now a sorry and miserable sight. As suffering and poverty continues at unprecedented levels, inflation astronomical like never before, one is shocked at the level of silence in Zimbabwe! Is it that the Zimbabwean mass is a docile lot or rather that there is all hope in the seemingly unending negotiations and summits. Does anyone really have hope in these talks anymore? More and more, I am persuaded to conclude that people are simply waiting for an official acknowledgement of failure from all parties including SADC and AU. I doubt if the matter will be fit for UN consideration as some have encouraged the MDC to consider. Surely one ministry away from a decent meal, one ministry away from opening of universities, one ministry away from implementing some agricultural sanity, one ministry away from sanity in the financial sector, one ministry away from resuscitation of our health system! I must be unrealistic, insane or we have an unfeeling leadership, power hungry lot...or rather a leadership without full control of their structures as they claim! Worse even, a leadership taking orders from other principals!
A full SADC summit will not achieve much in my view, but indeed it is the last straw and our last hope. Especially considering the fact that DRC is encountering more problems at the moment and that might pre-occupy the SADC summit. But even if priority was maintained on our crisis, what exactly could be changed that could not have been managed by the defence and security troika?
So, it has been established that the document was altered by MDC Mutambara and Zanu Pf with assistance from the South African facilitators. What impacts will that have on the whole negotiations? Surely such trickery and childish manoeuvrings should never be tolerated and rebuked in the strongest terms. I wonder what the MDC Mutambara had to gain from doctoring the original document and question their commitment to the whole negotiation process. It appears some people think they are cleverer than the rest. Who would have imagined that such unbecoming and evil act would remain silent?
What then will become of our beloved nation? Assuming that the deal fails, do we go back to the drawing board and allow ZANU PF to illegitimately rule us for the next five years? It is important for the MDC leadership to start considering forming a government based on the mandate they got on the 29th of March. Surely no one wishes his own country to de-generate to such levels but a stop has to be put to this mess! By whatever means necessary!
What is obvious is that the West will institute stinging sanctions which will hurt our people more. Again, I am at pains as to whether this will be the right move. Whilst anything that will help remove the old man is welcome, anything that hurts the ordinary people is intolerable. I try to imagine the possibility that people will say enough is enough and rise, that imagination does not last long in my mind, in fact it hardly comes. Supposing that they do; what mechanisms are there to ensure that this time the people’s war is finally won? Do we have a leadership capable of capturing the moment? Have such opportunities not been presented before? Again, I am left with more stress that I began imagining that with!
I shudder to imagine the typical festive season for the ordinary Zimbabwean this year! My mind is quickly crammed with pain and I remember Muzenda’s infamous and inspiring poem
OH Nehanda Nyakasikana
Kuchazogova riniko?
Kuchagozova riniko isu vanyai tichitambudzika?
Mweya unoera!
